It is clear that neither Jesus nor the devil is interested in any sort of compromise. One of them will be the victor, one of them will reign over heaven and earth completely and forevermore, and we will see that play out over the course of these weeks in Lent, but, spoiler alert: Jesus is the victor. Jesus wins. Jesus defeats death.
