The Beatitudes remind us that a life spent with Christ is not just about the promised eternal life, although that is a wonderful and glorious thing to anticipate and something of which we can be sure … but a life spent with Christ is about the life found in the living of it all, in the companionship of God, in the following after God, in the attuning our hearts with the heart of God day in and day out; a life spent seeking justice and kindness and mercy. The Beatitudes are an invitation into that kind of life.
